California State University, Fresno and its auxiliaries respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. Fresno State provides this statement to inform you of our privacy and security policy.

The University is committed to protecting the privacy of all visitors to our portal. California State University, Fresno complies with the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)1, and the California Civil Code Sections 1798 - 1798.78 Information Practices Act of 1977. Your personal information2 is protected with 128-bit Secured Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol for transmitting private documents via the Internet.

The University acknowledges your trust and is committed to protecting your information. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain accuracy, and ensure proper use of information, we have employed physical, electronic, and managerial processes to safeguard and secure your information.

The University respects the concerns of our community regarding identity theft and in June 2002 responded with the creation and distribution of a new and unique student identification number to every student to better protect other personal identifiers (e.g. social security number).

The My Fresno State portal is structured so that one may access Fresno State services on the web in a safe and secure environment. Many visitors to the My Fresno State ask why a lock is not displayed on the status bar and the URL does not contain "https". The reason you are not seeing the usual signs of a secured site is because our portal acts as a gateway to many web pages, some of which are secured, and others that are not. You may be assured that all personal information is encrypted and secured with a full strength SSL certificate.

How We Use the Personal Information We Collect
Fresno State uses personally identifiable information only for the stated purposes for which you supplied it to us, and in other ways for which you have given us permission, and as permitted by law. For example, if you provide your email address in connection with a request for information, we will use your e-mail address to send the requested information to you. 

Cookies
Upon successfully logging into My Fresno State, the web site uses "cookies" to present seamless access to the web site. The portal uses only "in-memory" cookies to store authentication information so you are not prompted to provide a username and password for every page. No information about you is stored in any file on your hard disk. The "in-memory" cookie is automatically erased when you click "Sign out" on the portal menu. As an added measure to protect privacy, we recommend you close the browser window after leaving the portal.

Your Role in Security
  • Protect your personal online "assets" by not revealing your password to anyone
  • Change your password regularly and contact the Help Desk at 559-278-7000 if an unauthorized person gets access to your password or, if you discover unauthorized activity
  • Do not walk away from your computer if you are in the middle of a My Fresno State session
  • Always click on "Signout" when you have completed your visit and close the browser
  • This Privacy and Security statement is subject to change, so check periodically for the last revised date and review the statement again
